Terms of service

last updated · 28 July 2026

By using verza.dev or its API you agree to these terms, governed by South African law.

1. What verza is

verza is a South African verification API: structural validation of ID numbers and VAT numbers, and National Credit Act interest rate lawfulness checks. Results are structural and mathematical checks against public checksum algorithms and published rate tables, not lookups against Home Affairs, SARS or any government register. See the disclaimer field on every response.

2. How you pay

3. Accuracy and limits

Every check states what it does and does not confirm. A structurally valid ID or VAT number does not mean it is registered with Home Affairs or SARS. An NCA lawfulness verdict verifies the interest-rate limb only, not full reckless-lending compliance. Always read the disclaimer field in the response.

verza is provided "as is" without warranty of accuracy, completeness or fitness for a particular purpose.

4. Acceptable use

Don't:

We reserve the right to block wallets, API keys or accounts that violate these rules.

5. Subscription accounts

If you use the subscription tier: you're responsible for keeping your API key confidential; one account per business unless agreed otherwise; you can cancel or delete your account at any time by emailing info@verza.dev.

6. Intellectual property

The API design, response formats, documentation and site are ours. The underlying legal and mathematical rules we check against (the ID number check-digit algorithm, VAT check-digit rules, National Credit Act Regulation 42) are public.

7. No warranties

Provided "as is" and "as available." No warranties about uptime, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose. Use at your own risk, particularly for any decision with legal or financial consequences.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by South African law, verza and its operator will not be liable for indirect, consequential or incidental damages arising from use of the service. Our total aggregate liability for any direct claim is limited to the fees you paid us in the three months before the claim arose.

9. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top reflects any change. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms.

10. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or close access at any time, with notice where reasonable. Sections on intellectual property, liability and acceptable use survive termination.

11. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. South African courts have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.

12. Consumer complaints

If we haven't resolved a complaint to your satisfaction within 15 business days of you raising it, you may escalate to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO): cgso.org.za, complaints@cgso.org.za, or 0860 000 272.

13. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found invalid or unenforceable, it is severed and the remaining provisions stay in effect.
